CHANGES TO TAX OF LIVING AWAY FROM HOME ALLOWANCES (LAHAs)

Melbourne: Friday 15 June 2012

The Australian Tax Office has announced changes to the taxation of LAHAs, including that it is only available for 12 months at any "away" location.

There are special provisions for LAHA clauses in contracts entered into on or before 8 May 2012 by permanent residents (not players on temporary visas).

Before you negotiate a LAHA clause into your playing contract, you should ensure that you, the club, and your financial advisors are informed on the implications of the new changes to the law.

If you are a player on a temporary visa and have an LAHA clause in your contract, you should obtain financial advice.

If you have any questions or need assistance in obtaining advice, please contact us.
