Your Professional Career

The PFA researches all aspects of the career path of a professional footballer to help inform current players when making important decisions (such as to transfer overseas) and to assist FFA and the PFA devising better programs for the development of players.

Many factors affect a player’s career path, including:

  • the economic viability of the sport;

  • cultural issues, such as relocation, language and access to support networks;

  • contract expiry;

  • injury and medical treatment; and

  • the quality of a player’s football education and development, especially technically.

Through player surveys, the PFA also measures the views of players on key issues, and puts those views to the football authorities in our negotiations and other dealings.
