Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) acknowledges FIFA’s letter to Football Federation Australia (FFA) confirming that FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) will, once again, visit Sydney to meet with stakeholders, as well as define terms of reference relating to a newly created Congress working group.

The PFA will continue to advocate for a modern Congress model that provides a platform for Australia’s long term international success. This necessarily and invariably involves a meaningful voice for those men and women footballers who continue to represent club and country with distinction.

The players have consistently maintained that two threshold issues must be addressed. The first is that Member Federations should not have a majority position within the Congress and, as such, the ability to unilaterally appoint or remove directors. The second is that an authentic and meaningful voice for gender equality must be embedded into the Congress, with that voice best sitting with the players.
