MELBOURNE: Thursday, February 23, 2017

Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) will tomorrow host its inaugural Westfield W-League Coaches and Managers Forum.

Following Tuesday’s release of the Grassroots to Greatness Roadmap, the conference will see W-League coaches and managers discuss the Roadmap and a number of other key opportunities for the sport, including:

>> discussion on the development of a women’s football pathway;
>> the role of women’s football in developing modern workplaces; and
>> discussion of an elite performance model within the W-League.

PFA Chief Executive John Didulica said the conference presented an ideal opportunity to gain invaluable insights.

“People involved in the W-League make an an enormous contribution to the sport through a lot of selfless work,” said Didulica.

“The recent W-League Grand Final demonstrated the quality of women’s football in Australia. If we are to achieve our shared ambition of international success, we need to learn from experiences and the knowledges of all in the game.”

Rae Dower, who recently guided Canberra United to the W-League Premiership, said the opportunity to discuss the PFA’s Roadmap in detail, and the game more broadly, was a welcome one.

“There is a growing sense that the momentum is building behind the women’s game and that there has never been a better opportunity to begin to tap into its enormous potential,” said Dower.

“The work that has been undertaken by the PFA has sparked a lot of interest and the chance to discuss it in depth with coaches across the league is one that I’m very much looking forward to.”
