MELBOURNE: Thursday, 9 February, 2017

Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) has today welcomed Football Federation Australia’s (FFA) decision to reschedule the Hyundai A-League match between Newcastle Jets and Melbourne Victory from Saturday afternoon to Monday night due to expected heatwave conditions.

PFA Chief Executive John Didulica said the flexibility shown by FFA, Fox Sports and clubs had the full support of the PFA.

“FFA’s decision to reschedule the match ensures that the health and safety of the players, and the integrity of the competition, will not be compromised and allows players as much time as possible to adjust their preparation so they can be at their best for the match,” said Didulica.

“In the recently released PFA Match Scheduling Policy the need for flexibility in the match calendar was highlighted if we are to address our unique challenges such as heat and extensive travel.

“The recent feedback from our members in relation to heat and travel has reaffirmed this and as such we welcome the flexibility shown by FFA, Fox Sports and the respective clubs in rescheduling this match.

“With extreme temperatures predicted across the country over the weekend, FFA have confirmed they are monitoring the situation for the remaining matches and we will continue to liaise with them.”
