Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) is pleased to announce the nominees for the PFA A-League Player of the Month for October.

Selected by an awards committee, made up of former Socceroos and leading figures in the Australian football media, the six shortlisted players for October are:

>> Aaron Mooy, Melbourne City;

>> David Carney, Newcastle Jets

>> Jamie Maclaren, Brisbane Roar;

>> Fabio Ferreria; Central Coast Mariners;

>> Brandon O’Neill, Sydney FC; and

>> Brandon Borrello; Brisbane Roar.

With the winner to be determined by a vote of all A-League players, Mooy’s nomination caps what has been remarkable 12 months, with the City midfielder firmly establishing himself in the Socceroos squad.

Having endured a difficult 2014/15, the nomination of former Socceroo Carney reflects his stellar start to the campaign, with the attacker starring for the Jets and scoring one of the goals of the season so far in round three against Melbourne Victory.

After scoring seven goals between them in the opening four matches, the nomination of Roar duo Maclaren and Borrello comes as little surprise with the forwards terrorising their opponents.

PFA President Matt McKay congratulated the nominees and said they further highlighted the quality of the A-League.

“These players have excelled in the opening rounds of the season and are truly deserving of the recognition,” said the Socceroo.

“It’s hugely encouraging to see the efforts of young stars such Jamie Maclaren, Brandon O’Neill and Brandon Borello recognised and they highlight the quality of the next generation of players coming through.

“The players face a difficult task in choosing a winner as all six of the nominees are deserving of being named the PFA A-League Player of the Month.”
