The Executive of Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) last night praised the solidarity of the 1997 Socceroos, in which the players overwhelmingly resolved to act as one to achieve a fair Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) on the way to qualifying for the Final of the 1997 FIFA Confederations Cup, arguably the greatest tournament result in Socceroos history.

Braham Dabscheck, the author of the report cited by the Hon Warwick Smith AM to recommend a cut to A-League player payments, today said that Mr Smith had got the numbers wrong on player payments and that his recommendation that the minimum A-League payment be abolished is unlawful.

Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) today welcomed the determination of Arbitrator Shaun McCarthy to award Gold Coast United’s former German player Peter Perchtold over $340,000 in compensation after he was sacked for refusing to agree to a club demand that the second year of his contract be removed under the club’s then “one year contract” policy.
